We’ve had a number of people asking how they can use footage shot with their DSLR cameras in Flixel Pro. The first step is to transfer your video on to your device’s Camera Roll. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, so here they are in order of simplicity:
1. Using Apple’s Camera Connection Kit
The easiest way to get footage from your DSLR camera on to your iOS device is using Apple’s Camera Connection Kit (via the old 30-pin connector or the new lightning connector, depending on your device). Simply connect your camera to your iOS device using the camera connector kit and your camera’s USB connection, and you can transfer your recorded videos to your Camera Roll.
2. Using Dropbox
Once you export this file and transfer to Dropbox, you should be able to open the Dropbox app, navigate to your video, tap the top-right save icon, and choose Save to Camera Roll. For larger clips this icon might be disabled – if that’s the case, press the star icon, then wait for the spinner that appears on the left side of the status bar to stop spinning. Once that’s done, the saving icon should become available.
3. Using iTunes or a Windows PC
The Easy Part: Importing to Flixel Pro
Select “Camera Roll” to view all of the videos you have available. After selecting one of your clips, you’ll be presented with a screen allowing you to select the portion of the clip you’d like to use (along with ability to crop or rotate your video). After pressing Done, you’ll be taken to the Edit screen – all ready to make cinemagraph magic!
Hi, does this work only for Pro? I'd like to test before committing...
Hi Rui - it is only available on the Pro version.
Is flixel pro available for windows 8 ?
Unfortunately no, but we're hoping to get to Windows soon
I cant import from "photos" on my iPad. It's basically an empty video list. HELP PLEASE
Hi Benedicto, I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the import. Can you please email support@flixel.com and we'll be able to help you out there. Thanks!
does flixel exists for iPad & iPhone only? why not for iMac?
and why there isn't an option in flixel to export the finished file as *.gif? flixel captures it automaticaly as a video file to camera roll
will be there some updates soon?
Hi Dima,
We're happy to announce we've just released Cinemagraph Pro for Mac. You will be able to render it as a GIF or video. https://flixel.com/products/mac/pro/
