The Blendeo Story

It was late one night after a snowstorm in January 2015 when the Flixel team was attending our first team offsite in Muskoka, north of Toronto. We went out to capture footage for cinemagraphs and started playing with long exposure light trails.

There, the kernel of an app idea and kernel of graphics code was developed. As a small team of 8 with only 3 app developers, Flixel focused on building Cinemagraph Pro and its community. Today, it is the app top professionals turn to for creating cinemagraphs with feature parity between macOS and iOS. Now that Cinemagraph Pro is mature and stable, we looked to grow the Flixel family of apps with Blendeo, the world’s most advanced long exposure editor for iOS.

About Blendeo

Blendeo is an advanced long exposure photo and video editor built for iPhone and iPad. Using a tripod and your favorite camera, capture a few minutes of footage and edit the perfect long exposure by adjusting the Exposure Time control and timeline range in Blendeo.

Camera App

Capture, edit, and create 4K long exposure photos and videos on supported devices. Blendeo’s camera will even show you a preview of your long exposure using Motion Blur and Light Trails blending modes.

Photo & Video Editor

Choose a still image on the timeline to transform in the Photo editor or switch to Video mode and control the timeline range and speed of your long exposure. If you aren’t sure which editor to use, try both!

  • Photo Export: HEIC, JPEG, PNG, TIFF
  • Video Export: H.264, HEVC, Live Photo, GIF

Exposure Time Control

There is no need for ND filters, calculating shutter speed, aperture, or ISO. The advanced Exposure Time control instantly previews changes from exposure of 1/30 of a second to minutes.

Blending Modes

The two blending modes available in Blendeo are Motion Blur and Light Trails. Motion Blur will soften water and clouds, make cars look as though they’re speeding by, create ghostly shadows of people walking, and make transient objects completely disappear with an exposure time of minutes. Light Trails will produce mesmerizing star trails in the sky along with streaks of light from moving cars and, fireworks, and more.

Creating Long Exposures in Blendeo

The best way to get started with Blendeo is by going through the Learn articles in-app and experimenting with the documents used in each tutorial.

Capture for up to 5 minutes in-app or import an existing video in Documents to start editing your long exposure. To create a long exposure photo, open the photo editor and drag the marker on the timeline to select an image. To create a long exposure video, switch to video mode and drag the trimmer handles on the timeline to select the content and adjust the speed.

Increase the exposure time to use blur or streak the moving elements in your long exposure photo or video and choose a blending mode: Motion Blur or Light Trails.

When you’re happy with your long exposure, tap on the share icon to export, send to Cinemagraph Pro, or share the document with another iOS device. You can change the export settings and either save to your camera roll or share instantly on connected social networks.

Many creators use Persecond for macOS and Cinemagraph Pro to create cinemagraphs that speed up and freeze life at the same time. Similarly, you can transform long exposure videos created with Blendeo into thumb-stopping cinemagraphs using Flixel Cinemagraph Pro for macOS or iOS. Get inspired by long exposure cinemagraphs created by the Flixel Community.
