Flixel partnered with Mashable and British Airways to celebrate their new route that connects San Jose and London–two major tech hubs at #BAinSanJose.

On May 5, Flixel joined hundreds of others from Silicon Valley at downtown San Jose’s Glasshouse. There was food, drinks, a flight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner simulater, virtual reality headsets, and of course, a Flixel Booth. Flixel Studios created personal cinemagraphs for party-goers, giving the Silicon Valley crowd a bird’s eye view of London. See some of the living photos below!

Behind the #BAinSanJose Lens

We checked in with Karaminder Ghuman, who was the director of the Flixel booth at the event. Karaminder is a photographer and visual designer based in San Francisco, working with brands, agencies, and clients on various photography projects. From portraiture, to corporate, to live events, Karaminder was just the guy to get the job done for #BAinSanJose.

Here’s what he has to say.

Q: How was the Mashable/British Airlines event? What was your favourite part?
A: The event was a very classy and fun soirée to be apart of! My favorite part has to be our cinemagraph booth with people from all over the world taking their first cinemagraph! They thought it was amazing that in just a few minutes later, they could have their very own cinemagraph sitting in their inbox. Quite a few of them uploaded and shared their cinemagraphs to Facebook and Instagram using the event’s hashtag; #BAinSanJose.
Q: What was your role at the event?
A: I directed an amazing team comprised of a digital tech, an assistant and a hostess. I also covered duties as the lead photographer and coached anyone and everyone that entered our booth on how to look good in front of a camera. My digital tech and I made sure everyone looked good and that no one had their eyes closed! Which is usually the biggest problem when having your picture taken.
Q: What do you like about cinemagraphs?
A: The blending of a still and having motion be apart of it. Part still life, part animation. All magic!
Q: Any last words?
I am just very thankful to my team, Cami Grudzinski, Mandeep Singh, Zoya Singh and Jodi Nakatsuka. The back-end team of Mark Homza, Adam Sherwin, Pang and Preto that helped make the event such a smooth and effortless success and for keeping the magic alive! Of course, British Airways, Mashable and Joe Moller Events for making a lovely and enjoyable memorable evening. (See some of the team below)
