Flixel is a free iPhone app that lets you create beautiful living photos in seconds. If you don't have it yet, well...we did mention that it's free, right?

What's a 'living photo'? Good theoretical question!

A living photo is like a still photo, but with all or some of the scene in seamless looping motion.

A fully animated living photo is basically a higher-quality animated gif. A partially animated photo is what's also known as a cinemagraph.

Cinemagraphs can be incredibly cool...but they're also a little trickier to make because your device needs to be completely steady during the capture. Of course, with a little imagination you can also use intentional motion to create some pretty interesting effects...

No matter what the level of animation, the results can be mesmerizing. We see this as a revolutionary step in photography, and every day we're blown away by our community's creativity.

Creating living photos with Flixel is easier than you think: just find a scene with some repeatable motion, hold steady, and capture it! There are some optional things you can do to make your creation extra-special, but realistically it's just that simple.
